Daily Drawings

Here are a few prompts I drew some time ago but had yet to post.
I have not been doing daily drawings for the last few weeks as I have been busy doing other artistic things.
I thought I would get these up and start doing a few more these coming weeks.

Daily Drawing Prompts.

I didn't get alot of time for drawing this week but I did come up with these few. They are all drawn with a black pen and coloured with watercolour pencils. I have a bit of a thing for the watercolour pencils this week and playing with layering colours together to try to create dimension.

1. For the prompt - Draw a treasure chest, I have drawn this wooden trunk with coins in it. I tried to give it an old worlde kind of look but I think it looks a bit more western. I think the coins came out pretty successfully.
2. For this next prompt - Draw a doughnut, I have well, drawn a doughnut, or two. Again, layering colours to try to create dimension. I was going to do a chocolate one with the pink one but, I thought that would be a little too much brown!
3. This next drawing was just for a little fun. Its from the front of a cheap greeting card. The shell came out all wrong but I still like the way the turtle came out on the whole.4. Lastly, This one was draw for the Prompt - Draw something to do with Bees. This kind of came out looking like a hornets nest...or not, actually, I don't know what a hornets nest looks like! Ok, Its a Bee Condo!

DD Prompt - Draw something hooked/a hook.

This drawing is in the style of a set of ATCs I did last year. I actually got the idea from some cushion I made for the couch, the material has a picture of a fish with lots of bright colours that I love, so, styled on these, I drew this poor hooked fishy. Drawn with black pen and coloured with watercolour paints.

DD Prompt - Draw a scene inside a cave.

This little drawing is a sleeping bear hibernating the winter away. Drawn with my black pen and coloured with watercolour pencils.

DD Prompt - Draw a representation of an element.

I'm not sure this was how "elements" was supposed to be interpreted but I took this as "Draw my representation of the elements", I have drawn earth, wind, fire and water. It is somewhat abstract but the elements are there. Drawn with a Pitt brush pen and coloured with watercolour paints.

DD Prompts - Draw a mushroom and Draw a bag/backpack..

The mushroom is drawn with a black Pitt brush pen and coloured with water colour paints. I saw some vandalism on a shop side wall once with four or five mushrooms drawn in a similar fashion to this and now whenever I draw mushrooms they look alot like this.
The backpack is from my imagination/memory. Drawn with my black pen and coloured with watercolour pencils.

DD Prompt - Draw something sitting in a tree.

These little guys look like a cross between sugar gliders and rats. Drawn from my imagination I guess I drew on some remembered aspects from both if not more species, I think I see a little ring tail possum too. Drawn with my trusty black pen and coloured with watercolour paints.

Sketches from my sketchbook.

Here are some sketches from my sketchbook. I haven't been doing the daily prompts or even drawing daily but I am drawing as much as I can. Quite a few of these were done in the Boiler House at Footscray hospital as it is a good opportunity for me to draw because I have a little waiting to do there. Some of these were also from the scavenger hunt at WetCanvas last week.

1. First is a very large valve.

2. An alarm panel in the boiler house!
3. Obviously, a hairbrush and some batteries in the back of the remote control.
4. My favourite toy, well one of them, Gameboy and my favourite gameboy game.
5. Oxy-Acetylene, gas welding set.
6. My mobile phone.
7. The kitchen sink and the plug from it.
8. Electric shaver and one of my drawing pens.
9. A pump from a large plant room at work.
10. Tools from my tool box! Well, some of them.

More DD Prompts.

This Drawing is for the prompt: Draw something with an Egyptian theme. Drawn with a black pen and coloured with watercolours. I used a photo from online for inspiration.
This Prompt - Draw something that is bad for you. Smoking is bad for you! Its been six years since I have smoked, I don't miss it at all. I am probably your typical ex-smoker in that I hate everything about it and am pretty verbal about it. Never thought I would be but there it is! Drawn with Pitt brush pen and watercolours, no particular brand and drawn from memory.
Draw a glass with ice in it. This was a difficult one to do as we have no ice in the freezer so I did this one from memory using just the black pen,
Draw a terrestrial globe. I had to think about this one because to be honest, I didn't Know what a "Terrestrial" Globe was. I knew what a globe was but when you add the Terrestrial it gets a bit confusing,. Well it did to me anyway.
Drawn with the Pitt brush pen and watercolour using a photo from online as inspiration. Draw a full bookshelf. I used the Pitt pen and watercolours again here and I love the look it has given the drawing.
Draw a motorcycle. I recently did the same prompt for EveryDayMatters so I decided to this one a little differently and added the cyclist as well. I used an image from online for inspiration and drew this drawing using just the black technical pen.

DD Prompt - Draw something from a book read recently/a sea creature.

The first one is a picture of an scene described in a Dean Koontz book I just finished. It is called "Velocity" and in it, He describes a large wooden sculpture on the hillside that is going to be burnt when it is finished, in the name of art! It was a pretty good book and Dean Koontz is one of my Favourite Authors. Drawn with black pen and watercolours.

The second drawing is a squid, drawn with the Pitt brush pen and watercolours.

DD Prompts - Draw a desert scene/Draw an empty shell.

For these drawings I have used black pen and watercolours and The Pitt brush pen and watercolours.

Daily Drawing in my sketchbook.

I haven't been doing the prompts very often this month, just the pirate so far but I have been drawing every day, I have decided to give my mind a rest and use my eyes a bit to do some drawing from life. Best of all, I have thrown the greylead away for this sketchbook and I am pleased with the results. Here are what I've drawn lately. As you can see, I do alot of sketching in my work breaks!

DD prompt - draw a pirate.

He's based on Jack Sparrow but funnily, he doesn't look like Johnny Depp! Black pen and prismacolors.

EDM Challenge #75 - Draw and journal a recipe.

This is not really a recipe, more like a discovery! Something we both like and both can eat without any problems! Great find. I get 2 serves each out of 1 cooking effort!
Its a packet mix for a potato bake similar to scalloped potatoes my mum made when I was young.

EDM Challenge #69 - Draw a beveridge.

I went with Lindsay to take the birds on a early morning training toss to Avenel, about an hours drive from home. Theres a truck stop with a cafe there. I got a take away coffee and held on to the cup for 2 days with the intention of drawing it. Drawing Done! but the patterns on the wavy cup surface were too much so I left them off. Watercolour pencils.

DD Prompt - Draw a Scarecrow.

Another online photo inspired drawing. I used a Pitt brush pen and watercolour pencils for this one.

DD Prompt - Draw some kind of ride.

I used a photo hunted down online to draw this one. I love the way it turned out. Black pen and watercolour pencil.

DD Prompt - Sum up June.

This has been a very cold month here in Melbourne. I am not one for wearing hats and scarves but the weather and the freezing conditions I am forced to work in dictated that I had to or freeze my ears off!! This is a graphite self portrait of me wearing a hat and scarf set my mum knitted for me. Coloured in Photoshop.

DD Prompt - Draw a spider

This is a picture of the Golden Orb spider. I took The photo I used to do this in Queensland last year. This spider was about as big as my hand. It is named for its golden coloured web.

EDM Challenge #74 - Clouds.

This is a representation of a lovely photo. I used it to try and recreate the clouds. I thought watercolours would be a good medium to try to do this with and a good excuse to use some masking fliud. It was a fun experiment. I quite like the way it turned out, the flowers are a little crisper in person but the scanner seemed to focus on the clouds which is what the purpose of the exercise was anyway.

EDM Challenge #71 - Draw something representing your Fav. Sport.

This is by no means representational of my favourite sport (which, by the way, is rollerblading for participation and diving for watching.) but a small watercolour for a bit of fun. Not my best medium, I am trying to learn to paint with watercolours, not because I want to be proficient or even a half good watercolourist. I just want to know what I'm dealing with when I do choose to use them. I found this photo of this little pup running with the ball and decided I couldn't not try to paint him/her.

DD prompt - Draw Something to do with photography,

I drew 2 of my old cameras using ink and watercolour pencils. The first one is my old Minolta Weathermatic underwater camera which I love and will never part with. This camera gives the best snaps above the water ever. This second one is A Pentax 135mm Zoom camera I bought just before I was given a digital as a Christmas gift and has hardly ever been used but I will keep it because it is too good to throw out and I don't know what else to do with it. I find I am missing the negatives you used to get with you photos.

DD prompt - Draw an arm/Draw a Statue.

This is Michelangelo's Statue of David. I took lots of time to draw this freehand copy of a photograph. It isn't quite right and the face is way out but I like the shading on the muscles and the hand that I did draw. Graphite.

DD prompt - Draw a Local landmark.

This is a drawing of Flinders Street Station in Melbourne. Draw with black pen and watercolour pencils.

For more than a century the grand Edwardian baroque building of Flinders Street Station has dominated Melbourne's southern boundary. The design was selected by an architectural competition held in 1902, and the red brick and golden cream stucco building was constructed between 1905 and 1910.
Trains had been arriving at Flinders Street since 1854. The present building is the most spectacular of a number that have stood on the site. Stretching along Flinders Street for more than a city block, and boasting grand archways and an expansive ballroom, it is public architecture on a majestic scale — a symbol of the importance of railways to the growth of the city and its suburbs.
Flinders Street Station has become far more than a place of transit. Meeting 'under the clocks' is a Melbourne institution, and the building arguably remains the city's principal landmark. Recently refurbished and repainted, Flinders Street Station is as resplendent today as ever.

EDM Challenge #42 - Draw a local City Landmark

This is the Melbourne Aquarium. It is just a recent addition to the city by a few years and sits on the Yarra river on the opposite side to the Crown Casino. I have visited the Aquarium 3 times and loved every time. I am a big aquarium buff and have been to most of the Aquariums on the east coast of Australia, I just love them. They are quiet, serene and beautiful. This is drawn with black pen and watercolour pencils.

EDM Challenge #39 - Draw your toothbrush.

I am getting better with using just the ink pen all the time!! This is a challenge from ages ago but I am working my way through all of them slowly. I used the black pen and watercolour pencils for this one.

DD Prompt - Draw a Monkey.

The first little drawing I drew while watching TV with no reference material so while cute, it's not very right so I decided to garner an image of a monkey and draw it. Both are drawn with a Pitt brush pen and the second has watercolour pencil as well.

Illustration Friday - Dance.

This was drawn for the Illustration Friday theme of Dance. I drew this from my imagination and the girls face is a bit wrong but, I'm quite pleased witht he rest of the drawing. Its done with black pen and watercolour pencils.
